Whats the difference between Athens and Sparta?

0

Athens was a large walled city with a major port and had one of the largest navies in Greece. It was ruled as a democracy and had a high level of education and art. Many philosophers came from here. Sparta was not walled and considered a group of villages; it was also inland with no major port. It had so many slaves that all sons of male citizens were trained to be fearless warriors. Literacy, education and art were not considered all that important. Women in this “city” had the highest level of rights (most other Greek cities, Athens included, generally wouldn’t even let a non-slave female out of the house without a male escort) and were encouraged to participate in exercise. Finally, Sparta had 2 kings.
