Whats the difference between assistantship and scholarship?
A scholarship is a financial award based on merit: excellent academic performance, or perhaps community service or leadership. Financial aid is a grant based on the student’s financial need, as documented by, family income, assets and other factors. There are also sports scholarships, awarded for recognized athletic ability as well as scholarships for other special talents such as music or fine arts. All types of scholarships and financial aid are extremely competitive and require outstanding academic records. Normally every department offers three different types of funding. They are Research assistantship, Teaching Assistantship and Grading Assistantship. However Grading comes under the Teaching Assistantship in most of the universities. There is a chance of getting a RA when the student’s skills and research interests matches with a professor’s research area.
