Whats the difference between analog (control voltage CV) and MIDI wind controllers?
Playing the analog synth that is connected via real control voltage feels to me like the synth is IN MY MOUTH and I am spitting the sound out my mouth as compared to playing a MIDI synth that feels somewhat like I am triggering a synth at arm’s length or 10 feet away (10 milliseconds). CV wind controllers such as the AKAI EWI and EWV2000 modules and the old Crumar and Steiner EVI feel like you are creating the sound from behind your teeth instead of controlling/triggering the sound. It’s very subtle but very obvious once you get to know the feeling. Also there is no chance of digital stepping with control voltage as you might find with MIDI (which has only 128 steps from off to full on). Clearly a true 100% analog CV wind controller is a great intimate experience. One of my favorite wind controllers to play is the 100% analog Crumar EVI. There is absolutely no latency and it has complete smoothness in response to its controllers. But a MIDI wind controller can be superb as well. It’s n
