Whats the difference between an online course and a correspondence course?
A correspondence course usually takes place entirely between the instructor and the student with the student mailing assignments to the instructor after viewing materials the instructor has provided for the student. An online course, on the other hand, is a community affair and involves the active collaboration of a whole community of learners enrolled in the same class. So, if a correspondence course allows the student to work at a solitary pace, the online course requires the student to keep up with others within a given course. Online courses require a sense of social responsibility and commitment — much like a face-to-face course — only, this is face-to-face in cyberspace.
