Whats the difference between an electronic thermostat and the old thermostats I have on my walls?
Older thermostats are usually what are known as bimetallic or mechanical thermostats. These thermostats use a metal coil (made by laminating two different types of metal together) that expands and contracts as a room heats or cools. As a room cools, for example, the coil contracts and trips a switch that turns on a baseboard heater or furnace.
