Whats the difference between an Assembly and a Convention?
Assemblies nominate candidates for offices that fall under Colorado laws, using rules created by the Colorado Democratic Party. This includes all state and county offices, as well as Colorado’s representatives in the US Congress and Senate. The County Assembly also elects delegates to higher-level Assemblies. A Convention nominates a candidate for the one office that does not fall under Colorado laws: the president of the United States. Convention rules are decided by the Democratic National Committee. The County Convention elects delegates to higher-level Conventions, culminating in the Democratic National Convention. Assemblies and Conventions are held on the same day and place primarily for convenience.
