Whats the difference between an acrylic tanks and glass tanks?
Acrylic aquariums are light weight and two times stronger than glass aquariums. Because it is very flexible and pliable, acrylic is the choice to use when creating aquariums with difficult corners or dimensions. Acrylic also does not distort colors like standard glass aquariums. Therefore, it gives you a clearer, more brilliant picture of the aquatic life in the aquarium. Acrylic’s one down side is that it scratches easily. Unlike glass aquariums, when scratches do appear on acrylic aquariums, they can be removed. In glass aquariums, when a scratch appears, it is permanent! Glass aquariums are ideal for smaller aquariums and live reef aquariums. Large glass aquariums are very heavy and will require double reinforced or steel-constructed stands. Glass aquariums are available in a non-discoloring type called “starfire.” This type of glass, however, is very expensive.
