Whats the difference between Alan Curbishley and King John of England?
While Curbishley celebrates 10 years in complete charge of the good ship Charlton, it’s perhaps worth casting our minds back 780 years for a second. Way back on the very same date on June 15th, 1215 the monarch at the time, King John, put his royal seal on the Magna Carta, commonly known as the great charter of English liberty. The charter, seen by many as the first rung on a long ladder that would eventually lead to constitutional law, limited the power of the English monarchs and prevented King John from absolute rule. It was signed after a series of disagreements between the Pope and King John and his barons over the rights of the monarch. There is certainly something ironic about the date Curbishley set sail alone, with plenty going on through history at exactly the same time of the year.
