Well both of these are used for the purpose of cooling a room. The air conditioners are the old machines which are used for the cooling purpose. It can cool a one normal lounge very easily, if the room is properly packed. There is drawback of air conditioners that they consume so much electricity and because of which electricity bill shoot up. But still in many places air conditioners are using. The air conditioners are only used for the cooling purpose. While the split are the dual purpose they do cooling in summer season and heating in winter season, they are very useful.
