Whats the difference between adult and embryonic stem cells?
Large numbers of stem cells are needed for stem cell replacement therapy. Embryonic cells are grown in culture, while adult stem cells are best taken from the fat tissue in your own body and activated by glycoproteins for maximum proliferation into a large number of different cell types. By using your own adult stem cells, there is no risk that your cells will be rejected by your immune system which may be the case if you receive embryonic stem cells. It has also been found that embryonic stem cells used in laboratory animals have created tumors. The use of embryonic stem cells is currently restricted in the USA and other countries.
