Whats the difference between acrylic and gel coat tubs?
Both are fiberglass bathtubs. The difference is in the outside surface, where the color is. Acrylic tubs are made of a sheet of colored acrylic that is heated and then vacuum formed into a mold. Gel coat tubs get their color from the gelcoat which is sprayed onto the mold like paint. Both tubs have a thick layer of fiberglass sprayed over the colored “skin” to give them strength, impact resistance, and durability.
