Whats the difference between a .WAV file and a MIDI (*.MID) file?

0

A MIDI file is a lot smaller than a Wave file. If there were Wave files in the Nokia 3510 rather than MIDI files, there would only be enough room for three ringing tones. A MIDI file contains the musical score but not the definition of all the instruments needed to play the tune. The instruments are stored in the phone in the instrument bank. A Wave file contains the musical score as well as the entire orchestra needed to play the tune. A Wave file can contain vocals. This is not possible with a MIDI file. Both file formats are used for polyphonic tones.
