Whats the difference between a screening mammogram and a diagnostic mammogram?
A screening mammogram is the best early detection measure available today. It consists of four films and is performed on a patient who is symptom free with no expected problems. A diagnostic mammogram is performed on a patient with abnormal symptoms, or a prior abnormal screening mammogram. It consists of several different pictures where the breast may be compressed in different positions, or with different attachments, so that a closer look may be obtained. Further work-up may be included.
