A prepay phone is a pay as you go phone, and your phone is locked to a certain network (although you can have them unlocked for a small fee). A sim free phone is not locked, and you can use any kind of sim card in it, from any network, for example Orange or Virgin or Vodafone. You just put in whatever sim card you want to use. So you could buy two or three different sim cards from different networks and swap them around in the same phone. It will accept them all.
