Whats the difference between a POP, IMAP and an Alias e-mail account?
POP and IMAP e-mail accounts are probably the type that you’re most familiar with. When using a POP or IMAP e-mail account, e-mail messages come in to our mail server and are held until you retrieve them using an e-mail application (such as Apple’s Mail App or Entourage). POP IMAP mail require a username and a password to access your e-mail. POP e-mail accounts retrieve the messages from the server and store them on your hard drive. This is a great solution if you only check your email from one computer. IMAP email accounts leave the messages on the server and can be viewed from your Mail application. This is a great solution if you check from multiple computers or devices (like an iPhone) because all of the messages are stored at a central location. The easiest way of describing an alias is to say that it automatically forwards e-mail to another existing e-mail account. For example, bob@yourdomain.com could forward to b_1435@aol.com or bob@earthlink.com or even bob-M@yourdomain.com. T
