Yes in the terms of your question a misogynist is a male chauvanist. As I think some of the others on here have pointed out a chauvanist is a patriot. When the feminist movement started to gain mommentum again in the 60’s and 70’s feminism started to be the buzz woord. If you did not subscribe to the ideals you were termed a male chauvanist as, literally, a patriot to the male cause. This term was linked with the oppression of women and hence it started to be known in a bad light. It is important to point out that misogyny is not gender specific. Indeed if we look at the current climate of leading feminists, a number of the statements made by these women are misogynisitc. At the end of the day, there should be no place in this world for gender discrimination against either men or women and it is essential to remember that women are just as capable of sexist, misogynist, behaviour as any man.
