An Immigration Consultant (CSIC member) and an immigration lawyer who both have strong background in the specific area of immigration should serve you equally well. You should always find out if they have an in-depth knowledge and experience working in the specific area of immigration law that pertains to you. Many types of appeals can be handled effectively by a consultant. However, certain categories of failed applications can only be appealed in Federal Court, and only a lawyer may represent you. We do have existing relationships with attorneys who are capable of assisting you should it be necessary to switch to an Immigration lawyer. Immigration Consultants work in Immigration matters all day long, and no other area, much like lawyers that are Immigration specialists. Keep in mind, many lawyers have little or no experience working in Immigration law. Whoever you decide on, ask lots of questions, and choose someone you feel comfortable with.
