Whats the difference between a human & a dog treadmill?
When my clients are physically unable to exercise their dogs I have them come up with a treadmill. The only requirements for that treadmill is that you can start and stop it, and it has variable speed. All the other bells and whistles are useless as far as the dog is concerned. I always recommend they go to graigslist and if they’re patient enough they’ll find what they need for around $100. I’ve literally trained hundreds of dogs to use a treadmill, and here’s the trick. With the leash guide your dog up onto the platform, holding on to the leash work your way to the front facing your dog and make sure that the leash is draped up over the top of the controls. Keep talking to your dog, try to be calm and start the treadmill. The dog will freak, with the ground moving and all, but be firm, pet him and begin to increase the speed. The dog will try to get off, use your strength to keep him on, he or she must stay on the treadmill to overcome the initial fear. Keep the dog moving forward. T
