Whats the difference between a front carrier and a sling?
Front carriers generally carry baby in the vertical ‘parachute’ position, hanging with all their weight on the crotch. Chiropractors around the world have warned that this may put too much pressure on babies’ soft and still developing spines and hips. Front carriers are also quite bulky, usually impossible to breastfeed in and become uncomfortable as baby grows bigger. A sling is more like a hammock which gently cradles baby’s spine. Baby lays or sits in developmentally appropriate positions and there is never any pressure on the hips. Slings fold up quite small and are easy to carry in a nappy bag. Breastfeeding discreetly is another real bonus when wearing a sling!
