Whats the Difference Between a College, University, and Institute?

planning on going back to school needs to know the differences when choosing where they will receive an education. Also realize that the differences are more distinct in other countries than in the United States so I will explain that as well. First of all i will discuss a college. Merriam-Webster’s dictionary defines a college as, an independent institution of higher learning offering a course of general studies leading to a bachelor’s degree. They also define a university as, an institute of higher learning providing facilities for teaching and research which comprises a graduate school and professional school each of which may confer master’s degrees and doctorates. Finally they define an institute as, an educational institution especially one devoted to technical fields. Well that can tell you a whole lot of nothing so let me explain.
