Whats the difference between a bolt and set screw?
Both these items can be found under the ‘Bolts’ category. A hex head set screw is fully threaded, whereas a bolt has part plain-shank. [Top] • How is the fastener length measured? For countersunk fasteners, the length is measured from the top of the head to the base. For all other head types (hex head, button head, pan head, mushroom & cheese heads, socket head caps) the length is measured from UNDER the head to the base of the fastener (so the length does not include the head). [Top] • For self-tapping screws, what is the equivalent mm diameter of the various gauge sizes e.g. 8G, 10G etc The approximate diameters of self-tappers are: 4G = 2.9mm, 6G = 3.5mm, 8G = 4.2mm, 10G = 4.8mm, 12G = 5.5mm, 14G = 6.3mm.
