Whats the deal with the kayaks, exactly?
— The kayaks are awesome. There are four, with paddles, life jackets, and dry bags. They’re made of sturdy plastic and they’re the kind you sit IN, not ON. You have to get them to the river and back — so it’s best to have a roof rack on your car and straps, or a pick-up or SUV they can stick out of. If you have teenage boys with you, they can carry them down to the river and back, but it’s kind of a drag. Once you get to the beach just down the hill, you can paddle quite far upstream and float back, or you can paddle down river to Guerneville (about 3 – 4 hours). You’ll need a car there. Or you can drive up river and put in at Steelhead camp site or maybe Burke’s canoes, and pull out at the Hacienda beach bridge.
