Whats the deal with the Allman Brothers Band and motorcylces?
Duane and Gregg grew up in Daytona Beach, Florida, which is about as close to biker heaven as you can get. Sturgis, South Dakota may have a bigger motorcycle rally each summer, but Daytona Beach bikers go hog wild year ’round. Duane got a HD 165 when he was 13 years old, and promptly wrecked it. Dickey was a biker way back before it all began for the Allman Brothers Band. He used to tear around the south wearing a Levi jacket with a patch on the back that said “Eat Shit”. One of the ways the band unwound in Macon after practice or playing a gig was to careen up and down the streets late at night as “Midnight Riders”. Sadly, Duane and Berry were both killed in motorcycle accidents.
