Whats the deal with Russian mail-order brides?
I have lived in Ukraine for fourteen years. Ukrainian and Russian girls–excuse me, young women–are almost all very good looking, hard working, slim, not self-indulgent, faithful, and have been trained from childhood to take care of their men to a ridiculous degree. They make good wives… but a lot of mail-order marriages end up unhappy for a number of reasons. One is that American men are unrealistic and think that an age difference above 15 years won’t matter. Well, 15 years is about the absolute max possible, and if you get one who’s more than that she may be a gold digger. Also, when a Ukrainian comes to America she suffers a lot from culture shock by being inserted into the high-pressure American lifestyle without any of the familiar comforts of her own culture. The happiest marriages I’ve seen have been those where Americans were willing to live in Ukraine.
