Whats the deal with North Korea?
North Korea is a poverty stricken Communist dictatorship that has become alienated from most of the rest of the world. Its aging leader, Kim Jung Il, has long calculated that the only way for his country to gain respect and power is to develop a strong conventional military and a nuclear weapons capability. He calculates that with a nuke capability he will be able to intimidate his neighbors and the United States into granting his country economic assistance they otherwise would not grant. His most credible threat to the U.S. is his capability to sell nuclear weapons to al Qaeda who wants them to use as weapons of terror and destruction against the U.S. Kim Jung Il is old and in poor health and recently has been “prepping” for the succession of his son who is supported by the military.
