NASCAR is threatening to move the all-star race from Lowe’s Motor Speedway after this season, so the speedway’s management has drafted Easley into their campaign to keep the race in Charlotte. His most visible show of support to date ended with crumpled sheetmetal, as Easley crashed a Jimmie Johnson show car (a retired race car now used as a promotional prop) into a wall while turning laps at more than 160 mph. In a move that deserves to be enshrined in the Geraldo Rivera wing of the Publicity Stunt Hall of Fame, the speedway sent out a news release — titled “Gov. Mike Easley Walks Away From 160-mph Crash” — complete with a driver-cliché quote from the guv. “The car was pushing a little bit in 3 and 4, but it had been fine in 1 and 2,” he said. “I was getting ready to come into the pits when it got loose in Turn 2 and spun.” The governor is expected to drive ex
