Whats The Deal About New Mexico Going Democratic?
That’s a complicated question, and to be honest as a New Mexican, I’m not entirely sure, but here are some thoughts. We have a popular democratic governor, governor Richardson. He was popular enough that he ran in the democratic presidential primaries. A lot of people are pleased with his performance. I think a lot of people here in New Mexico are irritated about the Republicans stance on illegal immigrants. Even though there are a lot of illegals here, people are for the most part sympathetic with them and not antagonistic. Republicans have done poorly with this issue because on one hand they have proposed building walls and police action but at the same time talked about amnesty. This gives a very confused message to those of us here in this state. Since we are a relatively rural state and a poor one to boot, people spend a large percentage of their incomes on gasoline and energy. Bush is largely seen to be at fault for rising costs of gasoline and energy due to the Iraq war.
