Whats the current status of electricity restructuring in Delaware?
The Delaware “Electric Utility Restructuring Act of 1999” allows many Delaware consumers to choose their electric suppliers. Although retail markets for electric have been open since April 2001 in Delaware , participation in electric supply choice has not proceeded as expected. Factors that may have contributed to this lack of activity could include regional market prices, the publicity surrounding the apparent failure of the California restructuring effort and weak economic conditions. The events of September 11 and the threat of war and continuing instability in the Middle East may also contribute to uncertainty in the market. The slow transition to a competitive market is not unique to Delaware . Initial efforts to open markets in other states have either been put on hold or have diminished after an early spurt of choice activity.
