Whats the correlation between students achievement in structure and their speaking ability?
In my experience – some but not a lot. It helps if a student has some understanding of structure, however speaking demands a great deal of confidence and a feeling for the language. The most academically gifted students often lack this, they are able to analyse a sentence on paper but are unable to have a normal conversation because they don’t have time to analyse what they say.
