Whats the blade made of?
Short answer: fine, modern, high quality exotic tool steel. Long answer: I use a handful of fine tool steels, and like most makers, I have my favorites. These steels are modern, high tech tool steels made to the highest quality the foundry can produce. Most of them can not be hand-forged, because of their high alloy content and high critical temperatures. They must be treated in a high purity environment, with careful steps of stress relieving, annealing, heat treating, and tempering. My clients expect the best, and these steel types have a proven record in combat, rescue, professional use, kitchens, field, and retain their investment value in collections. Here they are with some of their properties: • 440C You’ll see me refer to 440C as a high chromium stainless steel. That is because it has a fairly high alloy content of chromium, which contributes to its corrosion resistance, wear resistance, and depth of hardness. The Machinery’s Handbook© for steels and machinists claims that 440C
