Whats the biggest show on the Lifetime Channel these days?
Many p2p based wide-area storage networks have been proposed to provide scalable storage services by combining the idle resources of many unreliable nodes. These storage networks can also provide highly available and reliable storage services, by replicating each data on several nodes. The popular approach is availability based replication which uses individual node availability. However, some replicas leave within a short time under high churn in p2p networks. This results in heavy and bursty data traffic, and sometimes some data are lost. This paper presents the lifetime-aware replication which uses the lifetime of each node to prevent the bursty failures and the data loss. It keeps a primary replica which has enough time to replace a lost redundancy. It also spreads replicas on the timeline to reduce the overlapped replicas as best as it can. Results from event-driven simulations show that the lifetime-aware replication keeps high data durability with less data traffic. Sources:
Once again we open our homes and our hearts to a new season of Project Runway; nearly indistinguishable from former seasons in spite of its new home on Lifetime. The show’s creators took everything with them when they left Bravo; the lighting, the suspenseful music, the taglines. A few small tweaks make us realize this is the long awaited Season Six. The show is based in Los Angeles this time; the 16 contestants out of the gate skew younger than former seasons and the gap between young and old seems bigger (49 year old Epperson has a son the same age as some of his competitors). The series, per usual, is a bridge mix of variance in nationality, hometown, race, age and personality. Like past seasons, the budding designers claim beds in their living quarters and are summoned to the roof of the building to mix and mingle and drink cocktails with Heidi and Tim. Well, this hour visits the red carpet on the day of the Emmys – 11 months ago. After “Runway” tried to jump from Bravo to Lifetime, it seemed frozen forever. Now (after an out-of-court settlement), it’s finally back; this opener, finished months ago, shows the usual deft touch. The fashion designers range widely in age; two are 23, others are 41, 44 and 49. Some have big-city education and experience; one is a Minnesotan who didn’t have a chance to go to college. There’s a medical student and there’s a former meth addict; there’s a guy who’s very macho and several who aren’t.
