The handling of the Cuban Missile Crisis… Kennedy kept a cool head and made some tough decisions that ended up getting us out of that mess. The Joint Chiefs of Staff unanimously agreed that a full-scale attack against Cuba was the only solution. The Soviets would have retaliated by occupying West Berlin and invading West Germany – then, “Boom!”. Mutually assured destruction kicks in. Every time you look out the window and notice, “Hey, it isn’t nuclear winter!”, you can thank JFK.
