Whats the best way to teach yourself to play the guitar?
Learn your scales, but more importantly, learn your chords! Get down the basics. Once you mastered that, learn how to strum a guitar and the different techniques like hammering, slides, mutes, etc. Probably the easiest way to learn the guitar quickly, would be to buy a beginners guitar book from a music shop. That is how I started and I wouldn’t do it any differently. Do not start with tabs. Guitarist who only read tabs and don’t learn chords will never be any good. You must learn the basics before you can shred. I would also recommend private guitar lessons with someone who understands music, not some metalhead you found on the street. However, that would cost some bucks. I never took lessons and I do not regret it.
