What’s the best way for a college student to get a job on the Hill?
Like most things, getting a job on the Hill requires a combination of luck, perseverance, and personal connection. The first and third don’t require much explaining. For the second, a lot of the “luck” comes from getting a foothold in some office somewhere, which positions you to move where you’d most like to be when the opportunity arises. If you are in school and still have a couple summers, try an internship. If you have graduated and are looking for work with a specific member and can’t get the job, then contact friends, alumni, and home-state offices and read the job listings in the Hill papers like Politico, The Hill or Roll Call until you find something. Just as important, do you recommend it? Ha! It has been good to me.
