Hello! I just set up my car audio system successfully today after a great deal of research. My main goal was to have my entire music collection available (~50Gb) in the car, and fast startup times – i.e. no delay when turning the car on or switching between audio inputs. From my research, I understand the Pioneer headunits with “UB” in the model name all have the ability to handle a massive number of files and take no more than ~20 seconds when starting the car to getting audio from USB. Most other headunits from all manufacturers have significant limitations in this regard. Another key issue is whether the headunit can provide enough power to the hard drive to power it. My understanding is that *MOST* USB hard drives require additional power over and above what typical head unit’s can provide.
