Whats the best thermal printer for me?
There are two types of Thermal Printers; Direct Thermal and Thermal Transfer. Direct Thermal uses Thermal sensitive media while Thermal Transfer uses a ribbon that transfers onto a non-sensitive label. So if your application is going to be one that is stored in high temperatures or has a long shelf life you’ll likely want to go the transfer route since the thermal labels will fade over time or blacken in heat. My experience is with Zebra (and Eltron, which Zebra has acquired) and I’ve seen and worked with offerings from them of both types. I’ve been very impressed with the performance both in small and large volume desktop printers. They’re also the printer (Eltron) that UPS and FedEx provide to customers for their direct thermal labels. Look at the 2824 line I think for your size needs. I don’t think there’s an autocutter available, it’ll be pricey at that size if there is, but you can get perforated roll labels that will easily tear off. These are slightly above your price point new,
