Whats the best memory storage format?
Compact flash is the most versatile form factor, especially if your device is Type II compatible and can, therefore, use a microdrive. This segment of the market appears to be the most price competitive and tends to support larger capacities due to the larger physical size of the medium. The compact flash approach appears to include some controller logic on the storage device. While this could potentially increase cost, in practice it has not and it seems to ensure greater compatibility between new compact flash storage cards and older devices. Other storage formats (memory stick, MMC, smart media, etc.) have traditionally been inferior to compact flash in every way except size. An annoying property of many of these media is that they appear to be controllerless, leading to compatibility problems between older devices and new storage cards.
