Whats the best gourmet meal you ever ate?
The best meal I ever ate was at Minibar in Washington, DC. It’s an ultra-tiny restaurant, six seats, inside another restaurant. I had to make reservations a month in advance, and they sell out almost instantly. It’s THIRTY tiny courses, many of them a single bite, each wildly inventive. They like using truly novel techniques, like creating foams with egg whites, or unexpected taste combinations. Some of the courses: • Foie gras, on a stick, coated in chopped corn nuts, wrapped in cotton candy • Sheets of apple so thin you can see through them, as crisp as potato chips, with fennel pollen and saffron between the sheets. • A gumdrop made of saffron wrapped in an edible cellphane wrapper • A glob of mojito, served on a spoon, liquid mojito in a seamless gelatin shell that pops when it hits your tongue. • A three-layer tequila sunrise, with the top layer a foam of tequila and passionfruit juice. • A caesar salad, reimagined as a sushi roll • Coconut sorbet with tamarind sauce and chili pep
