(We don’t want to have to remove the sod.) A: Cover the bottom of the bed with non-woven landscape fabric. Large tarps can also be used and are less expensive. If you don’t want to make that kind of purchase lay down layers of cardboard or several inches of newspapers. Frame the garden bed with untreated wood, stones or landscaping bricks and then fill the raised garden bed with soil/compost mix.
