Whats the best advice you can give to people wanting a career in New Media?
The media gets a lot of stick for being a closed network but I’ve seen a lot of people get in on hard work and talent alone – people who work in the media have a keen eye for talent because it’s often the quality they possess themselves. Your best assets always are your skills so get as much experience as you can. People often end up doing unpaid work experience which can be really tough on your finances but lots of organisations like Channel 4 do paid schemes. Also don’t get disheartened. I tried to get into Channel 4 when I was a young graduate and failed, but I went out and got more skills and 10 years later here I am. I still can’t quite believe it so never give up, if it can happen to me it can happen to you too.
