Whats the benefit of tiered rates?
The district’s main motivation in pursuing tiered rates is to promote conservation and reduce water run off. Other water districts that have adopted water budget based tiered rates have experienced 22% to 37% water savings. Participants in PWD’s Residential Smart Controller Program have reduced their water use by an average of 26% with a new irrigation controller. This proves that many of us can reduce our water use without taking drastic steps or radically changing our lifestyle.
