Whats the basic difference(s) between the GPL and BSD licenses?

GPL and most variants require that you must release all source changes and the changed code must be GPL licensed also. BSD licensed code requires that you leave the copyright notice in your code but you are not required to release modified source code. GPL supporters often claim that GPL is “more free” but I fail to see how when it makes you do things that BSD doesn’t. Perhaps you see it differently and that’s fine too.
