Whats the American idea of equality? Have LGBT achieved equality in America?
Equality means that if you qualify under the law…as in say you are an American Citizen, a productive member of society…then you also qualify, under the law, for all of the same benefits and rights as any other American Citizen for the SAME rights, and privileges. Currently…Gays and Lesbians may not marry, in some states we can be passed up for promotions, fired from jobs, may not have the same rights if our “spouse” becomes ill or dies with regards to property we may have owned together (this is improving, but since we are not allowed to legally marry, we have to take special legal provisions to insure these specific right). In some states we may not foster children or adopt. (FL comes to mind) and if we have a child with our partner, and the partner was the birth parent…if they die, that partner’s family (in some states) can come in with legal backing and remove OUR CHILD from our care because THEIR dead child was the blood parent…in some cases even if we have legally adopte
