Whats the All-Seeing Eye (ASE) about?
The All-Seeing Eye (a.k.a. ASE, vs. GS for GameSpy) finds servers and pings them more accurately than GameSpy (at least I think so), and has many options for filtering and finding games, finding friends, waiting to get into a game, etc. It is also much faster: a full update of the server list on my machine takes 18 seconds using ASE, 50 seconds using the in-game browser. However, unlike the in-game server finder, you cannot switch to another server from inside the game. That is, if you are in a game and want to join a different server, you must quit Battlefield 1942 itself. The quickest way to do this is to quit by hitting “Alt-F4”, which immediately kills the program. You can then ping the server list in ASE and join another game. To get ASE, go to their web site and look at the Download section to the right. Download, install, and run the program (it’s free to try). On the left side of the application will be a list of games that you have on your computer that ASE supports. Click on
