It’s a wrist brace, used to support the joint. It’s likely that he wears it to provide relief from a condition known as Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, or RSI (Repetitive Strain Injury), which causes joint pain when any action or movement is performed repetitively over a prolonged period. It is a common ailment amongst typists and VDU operators. It could also be used to provide some support to his wrist and prevent muscle strain caused by his aggressive playing style and / or prevent him from gashing his lower-arm against the bridge of his guitar.
