Whats that “defaults” file and can I get rid of it?
The defaults file (/etc/opt/SUNWexplo/default/explorer) is used to gather customer information. This file is created during the installation of package SUNWexplo before the Sun Explorer 4.3 release. After Sun Explorer 4.3, the defaults file is created and updated by the explorer -g command. Sun Explorer cannot run without the defaults file, and the version of the defaults file must match the version of the package. The file is used to provide valuable information so that the Sun Explorer data can be retrieved more easily by Field Engineers and System Support Engineers. The defaults file should not be removed. Sun Explorer notifies you when fields are missing from the defaults file. More information on the defaults file format is available in the explorer(4) man page.
