What’s technology like in Surat?
Surat Thani has some, but not all, of the modern day technology that westerners are used to. Electronics shops carry ipods, high-tech computers, high def televisions, DVD players, digital cameras, etc. Most Internet shops have ADSL connections. Wireless internet is available but very hard to find and expensive to purchase. Internet can be run into people’s houses but it is expensive and the connections are not reliable. Most people use the internet shops, of which there are several dozen, and all are cheap. Some people bring their laptop computer with them. These computers usually seem to hold up quite well. However, should something happen to your computer while you are here, then the only people to fix it are the Thai computer guys. While they are capable, they are not as skilled as your friendly Dell repair man. At least from my own experience, once somebody other than the seller has tried to fix the computer, then the seller will not help you. Beyond the technical aspects, laptops
