Whats so special about Cuban cigars anyways?
Cuban cigars are illegal in the US due to trade restrictions. People do buy them via Costa Rica and elsewhere and ship them back on vacation or buy them over the web. The fact that they are illegal gives them a mystic… the scarcity makes them special and so folks clamor for them. I think just so you can offer your friend one and impress him and he will say, “Geeze… a real Cuban?… How did you get it?” To which you will answer, “I have my connections….” The scarcity trick works in marketing… some US companies know this–like Microsoft–have produced an artificial scarity of Xbox 360 game units back when they first came out there were even armed robberies of stores to get them. The scarcity of the cigar makes them harder to get and because they are hard to get there is a mystic about that. I don’t think there is really anything special about Cuban tobacco, the way they grow it, or the way they process the cigars that couldn’t be duplicated by another company.
