There is controversy over proposed Wild and Scenic River legislation, potential flood issues with the city of Woodland, some fish with high mercury levels and exotic vegetation growing along its banks. Many people are passionate about the need to keep the river free-flowing, clean up the toxins, and restore native plants and animals. So why is this creek important to so many? A Matter of Semantics One of the problems may stem from the river’s name, Cache Creek. When you think of a river, you may find words like “majestic” and “mighty” come to mind. But a creek is something less – a creek. The early explorers who first stumbled across Cache Creek thought otherwise.
