Whats Piri Piri?
Piri Piri is the name used for African bird’s eye chilli. There are several variations in the spelling and this is as a result of the different pronunciations in Africa. Piri-Piri is the correct spelling in Portuguese where it is used frequently to prepare sauces for roast and grilled dishes especially chicken and fish. The Portuguese themed restaurant Nando’s includes piri piri in many of its dishes, however it uses the South African spelling peri peri on its menus. You will find many restaurants in the Algarve area of Portugal that specialise in piri piri as this is one of the most common areas where it is eaten.
